I see this lamp as a container and display of light. By separating the two halogen bulbs the light is able to flood out of its container and cast colours and patterns around the lamp.
12 arms form the mechanical linkages to control the distance between the two spots and give the lamp its adjustable form. When the two halogen spots are brought together the light is extinguished.
The steel base and exposed transformer to firmly ground the lamp and give it an industrial aesthetic in keeping with its mechanical elements.
The result is a lamp that ornaments a space with light when it is switched on and with spidery charm when it is off.
